“You only have one go at life so you may as well live it,” such are the words of Fred Barrett who has just bought what he calls his forever home at Mankara in Manning.
Fred and his wife Robyn bought their 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home on the top floor at the first Open Day in May.
“We didn’t hesitate,” he said!
“We had been looking for ages for a right size apartment and just couldn’t find what we wanted.
“Some of the other apartment complexes were too high, we didn’t want to live in the sky and we didn’t want to pay sky-high strata fees either.
“Mankara is great because for us the strata is just $1,000 a quarter compared to other developments that we looked at where it was $2,500, and I understand for other apartments in Mankara the fees are even less.
The other cost saving being enjoyed by Fred and Robyn was the stamp duty rebate which is exclusive to off the plan purchasers until 23 October.
“We used our savings to upgrade the kitchen and the flooring in our home so have upgraded benchtops, integrated appliances and fridge with a water connection point.
“It was a no brainer!”
The great thing is that buying off the plan gives you time to sell your current home in the time it takes this one to be built.
Fred is 69, worked in the same job for 48 years and retired almost 5 years ago.
“We’re excited about this lock and leave lifestyle,” Fred said.
“Robyn and I are extensive travellers, so we were looking for an apartment which was totally lock up and leave and Mankara fitted this perfectly.
“The other good thing about Mankara is the fact that you own the property.
“No land lease arrangements as like many other types of retirement places. You are free to sell anytime or pass the property onto your family without any embargoes to worry about,” Fred said.
